For the people that like sharding, one thought apart that quix mentioned:
Life is important (most part of the people think that is the most important in this game), you can survive more easy with it, but if you like sharding i think that are better raise stats for 2 simple reasons:
First you cant raise the weapon damage, if you find one champion you spend the same in kill it with 5.000 life or with 20.000 life (not realy because with more life you dont have to run to heal yourself if needed, but the same time or very close in almost all champions) but with more stats you magic causes a lot more damage and this translate in more champions that can do in the same time.
Second rifting, when you go upper F43 the maximum DR that apply is 45% (lvl 55), so the people think that only can compensate this with more life, and this is true in part, but i think that if you have 5.000 more life only can survive 5 more hits (not bad) but to be honest are easy that you recieve this 5 hits with any speed curse or if one champion change you or many other situations, but if you raise stats are more dificult that a group of monster catch you because you kill in one spell (so you dont recieve this 5 extra hits).
Obviously you need at least 4.000 or maybe 5.000 to survive at many situations, but after this i think that is better raise stats
As i say, is only a thinking, feel free to refute me or express your own opinions. (yes, i'm bored, problems? xD)

notice for those who have the duck ray : his effect lasts for a few seconds in a particular map, so it can be useful at places where you have to come back to run through all the map (underground dungeons or makeout point. When you runs back the ennemies are still ducks and don't disturb :-)

There's only one very important advice missing in this list : let your last map unfinished, so you can enter it every 30 seconds instead of every 20 minutes. Really fine is the map is somethings Afoot, where you can run very quick through 3-4 stages and most get easy singles champs.

Like Pshyco said i also made the experience that stats help me much more in rift then hp. If i get ultra rust it doesn't matter how many hp i have, they hit me 2 - 4 times and i'm done... But with higher stats (in my case Fury as a warrior) i can handle to take them down with one earthwave or charge before they can hit me anyway. Same when i have speed curse, i couldn't escape them by runing so the suround me kill me. It's just a matter of time. But since i upgraded my fury skill i were always able to kill them before one of these two cases was able to happen. I'm also the opinion stats are more usefull then hp. ^^
*Edit: But that doesn't mean hp are useless since champs aren't taken down this easily so you need some to withstand these attacks...
